Grading guide
How we grade used parts.
Every used part has two labels. The grade tells you how it looks, and the condition tells you whether it works. We list them separately because a part's looks don't tell you much about whether it runs.
Grades
New in box
Never used and still in the original packaging.
Like new
It's been used, but you'd have a hard time telling.
Good
Shows some normal wear for its age, but it's clean.
Fair
Has wear you'll notice, like scuffs or sun fade, and we price it lower for that.
Rough
Heavy wear or damage. Many of these are sold for parts, so check the condition before you buy.
Condition
Every used part has one of these four. New-in-box parts (grade S) don't have one, since they've never been used.
Tested working
- Tested by us
- Yes
- Works
- Yes, when we listed it
One of our techs ran it before we listed it, and it worked. The test notes say what they checked.
Pre-owned
- Tested by us
- Not stated
- Works
- Not stated
We aren't saying either way whether it works. Go by the photos and the notes.
Untested
- Tested by us
- No
- Works
- Unknown
We haven't tested it, so we can't tell you whether it works. It's sold as-is.
Not working
- Works
- No
It doesn't work. It's sold for parts, or for someone who wants to repair it.
When we test a part, the test notes give you the numbers, such as the temperature drop on an air conditioner or how long a unit ran. The condition tells you whether a part was tested at all.
If anything is missing from a unit, the listing says so. If it says "none noted," you get what's in the photos.
